Why is it that eBay think they have the right to decide where you can sell things ?
One of my eBay accounts, That has not been used for selling for a while, Has been suspended for breaking eBay rules.
Apparently I sold some goods outside of eBay. Now the goods concerned were not and never have been listed on eBay and the person who bought the goods contacted me through a private email and the sale was a private sale.
I explained this to eBay but they said that because I had previously traded with that person on eBay I had broken the rules. I explained that it was nearly two years since I traded with the person through eBay and they had contacted me through a private email not eBay, But ebay still maintain that I broken the rules. So I asked if I sell on eBay does that mean that I am not allowed to run my own website to sell similar goods and if this was the case how do the classified ads work as that is basically what happens with a classified ad. Needless to say I did not get an answer nor did they give me an answer as to how they gained the information.
All they did say was that the matter was being investigated and my account is suspended until further notice. So I told them where to stick their investigation and the account concerned. The account is of no loss to me as it has not been used for selling for over twelve months( although I have used it to buy something recently), and it has absolutely nothing to do with information products or Internet Marketing. I just don’t see how it is any of their business what I do outside of eBay. I don’t see how i could of been reported as the account is dormant and ebay just do their usual thing and avoid any direct answers by refering you to the ebay policy pages and nowhere in the pages does it say that if you are an ebay user you are only allowed to sell on ebay, so what the plebs at ebay are saying is that they are the law and if you trade outside of ebay you are not allowed to use ebay. If this is the case then there is a hell of a lot of people about to be suspended.
Mind you I don’t think i would get the account back anyway after telling the jumped up little amoeba what I thought of him, But I had already told him to close the account and what he could do with it and his investigation !
Anyway that’s enough of me ranting on.

This is a bit off, isn’t it. I sell oil lamp glassware on ebay and am always getting asking for specific specialist items that are not listed. One would assume that if I can find the item for the customer I cannot sell it to him without incurring the wrath of eBay then.

Yes it is out of order as going by what they say it means that if you sell eBooks on eBay you are not allowed to sell them on your own website. We know this is not right as I sell ebooks on eBay and from my own website. I think it is just some jumped up little pleb with a power trip.

It is BS, because from your about me page you are allowed to place a link to your website which in turn can lead to an upsell of the same or other products that you advertise on eBay as well as your website but without the FEES incurred by eBay on the upsell, go figure?

Yep I know it’s BS but that’s what the pleb in eBay customer services(or should that be customer waste of time) said. It would help if these people actually knew the rules and that’s probably why I got no more replies when I asked about classified ads and why that account seened to be governed by different rules to all oyhers. Anyway my other accounts are ok.

I’d like an update on this situation. Ebay really likes to flex it’s muscles don’t they? The whole thing sounds very fishy to me…and, I am equally curious as to how they obtained the info too. Did you ever find out?

I can’t really tell you much, They wouldn’t tell me where they got the information and have not replied to emails since, except the standard copy n paste replies.

Just what is going on with ebay, some time ago they had a very good business model. But they have been systematically eroding it with all these changes.
